As one of the year’s largest annual toy fairs the New York Toy Fair attracts over 1,000 exhibitors, 25,000 attendees, and is home to around 7,000 new product launches per annum. The event is also home to the Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards, billed as the ‘Oscars of the toy industry’, which honor the most outstanding new products in 12 categories and crown one the overall ‘Toy of the Year’. Though the event attracts fewer visitors than the Nuremberg (February 1-6), the Toy Fair New York, where Barbie first appeared, is widely respected and the TOTY awards are generally recognized as the industry standard.  The Toy Fair New York, along with Nuremberg and the Toy Fair London (January 24-26), is one of the three biggest toy industry events of the year.

In 2011, more than 4,000 exhibitors from 70 countries and more than 339,000 visitors made their way to Hannover for CeBIT. Despite declining in stature since its heyday when over 700,000 visitors would attend, CeBIT, with its 450,000 square meter exhibition space remains the largest digital, IT and telecommunications event in the world. This year’s edition of CeBIT is subdivided into the following four sections — CeBIT Pro, CeBIT Lab, CeBIT Life and CeBIT Gov. Of these categories CeBIT Life will focus on the latest smart home technologies, and ‘intelligent living’ applications. In terms of exhibitor numbers and market importance CeBIT easily eclipses the Electronic House Expo held in Florida (March 15-17).
